Fear

I keep reading all these gloomy news stories about a downturn in the economy, and have been thinking how important it is not to be fearful when we hear these projections. I'm not suggesting we should ignore all the economic reports and put our heads in the sand, but it is important not to make critical decisions in our lives from a place of fear. I try and adopt the Buddhist position and accept change and impermanence as part of life by staying detached and calm (on a good day!). This helps me not to feel buffeted around by the ups and downs of house prices, etc.

It's so important to have a positive attitude to money and material things. A couple I know are always saying that they can't afford this or don't have enough money for that. Talking about how little money they have is one of their favourite topics. It strikes me when I listen to them how much their conversation perpetuates their situation - the power of a negative affirmation! I do think that you have to keep hold of your spiritual view when thinking about money. Of course we have to be responsible for our material life and can't just hand over this responsibility to Spirit to sort out our bank accounts, but we all know that it is really important to stay positive. We have to focuson what we have in our lives and not on what we are lacking. I often use Louise Hay's famous affirmation 'All is Well' to remind me to keep a positive attitude to challenges. I think that affirmation reminds us to drop below the surface fear in the knowledge that we are secure at the deepest level.
